Anchorage, Alaska
Our Tellabration was held at the cozy Pioneer Schoolhouse, one of Anchorage's historic buildings. Sleet was falling, but that didn't seem to keep people from coming, mostly people who have attended in the past as well as families of the teenage musicians and young storytellers. One of our former mayors, Jack Roderick, read the proclamation after the teen group of musicians warmed us up.

The storytellers presented a wide variety of stories, and the audience was enthusiastic as usual. Two of the tellers were new members to the guild, three were long-time members, and three were 11/12 year olds who had taken a storytelling class with one of our tellers this summer. It was wonderful to have the young people there. We are happy to be gaining a faithful Tellabration audience, and felt the support of the NSN and all the participating sites. We are happy to be part of this uplifting event.

This is one of two programs we held at the same space as Two Days of Tellabration with the Moonlight Storytellers. This evening program was targeted for an adult audience. We had 10 adults and two children.

This was the second event of our Two Days of Tellabration with the Moonlight Storytellers. Intended primarily for a child audience, it was double-billed as in support of Tellabration and Children's Book Week. 44 people attended; 22 children and 22 adults. All children received a free paperback picture book, courtesy of the Hawaii Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. We had three tellers each telling for 15 minutes.

  Comments about Tellabration! 2001:
The Tellabration was truly a blessing to all the families that attended. It was a spirit filled afternoon. - Rev. Sandra Brown

On November 17th I attended a Storytelling Event at Park Manor Christian Church. The program was very good and organized to perfection. I liked the idea of children teller, young adults and older individuals. That made for a well rounded program. They were able to make African History come alive as well as other cultures. If there is another Tellabration planned in the future I will surely be in attendance. - Carrie Holt

The Tellabration 2001 at the Park Manor Christian Church was an uplifting and revealing experience for all ages. The material was excellent, educational and suitable for all ages, races and ethnic groups. The audience was very receptive. - Maxine Stuckley

Tellabration 2001 was a very interesting experience for me. I enjoyed all the storytellers and I really did enjoy the young tellers. Looking forward for Tellabration 2002. - Barbara Smith

I enjoyed the Storytelling Event at The Park Manor Christian Church. Each teller was Superb. - Evelyn K. Polk

The Tellabration was a real success at The Park Manor Christian Church. All that attended had some real positive feedback. The Friends at Park Manor Christian are looking forward to the next Tellabration.

All of our events have been fairly successful. We had one year when only a handful of people came to one of the programs, but the past two years have shown significant growth in numbers. Our Friday evening event for three years now has been in a private home with an invited audience -- generally 20-30. The Saturday morning event at the Vernon Parish Library in Leesville draws consistently good audiences -- many come regularly. This past year was our first performance at the Alexandria Museum of Art. It was a wonderful venue. We had a huge audience -- of all ages. The ambience was super. We make it a point to combine novice tellers with seasoned tellers -- this is made clear in all of our publicity. We do not charge, but people are encouraged to bring donations for the food pantry in each community.
